Oasis - The European project foundation of the Ozwillo platform

The origin of the project

Ozwillo is the outcome of OASIS European project which allowed to create the first technical and legal elements of Ozwillo infrastructure.

The European OASIS project was selected in 2011 by the European Commission under the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme 2007-2013 on the Call for Proposal: Towards a cloud of public services.

The issue was to develop more efficient public services by supporting public authorities to switch to cloud and interoperable services.

Outcomes of the project

  • A Web and secured infrastructure of linked data, released as an Open Source project on Github
  • A secured infrastructure tested by a specialized firm
  • 23 applications, whether business or for citizens, turned in SaaS mode, sharing data thanks to the infrastructure
  • More than 1800 registered organisations use the applications representing more than 2700 users sharing more than 615000 data
  • A business model
The project unique in Europe, has combined 6 countries (England, Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, Turkey and France) with 5 pilot sites

OCCIware - Pursue innovation thanks to a national project

The OCCIware project was selected in the 4th call for projects « Cloud Computing and Big Data » Heart of digital industry, Investments for the Future - Development of the Digital Economy

The objective of OCCIware is to provide a formal framework and equipped to manage all types of resources « in the cloud ». The OCCIware project aims to develop a formal framework and tools for modeling, design, deployment and execution of all IT resources as an online service

Ozwillo will be one of OCCIware demonstrators

What is a demonstrator scale 1?

A demonstrator scale 1 is after the laboratory research phase, before the industrialization phase and marketing which first step is usually the realization of a prototype

The realization of a demonstrator is necessary to :

  • Validate at real scale, design solutions used in R & D on « the bench » or test equipment or on demonstrators at reduced scale
  • Evaluate performance in an environment close to a real situation and at the right scale
  • Demonstrate the relevance of innovation and competitive advantages in the perspective of innovation by usage

So the demonstrator is a place to perform and experiment technologies to optimize and validate the feasibility and performance. It must involve economic partners, laboratories, several industrials and territories for the implementation.

There are three main categories of demonstrators :

  • Product Demonstrator
  • Process Demonstrator
  • Complex systems Demonstrator may itself be an evaluation field of the first two types

Trends and Ozwillo development axes

Beyond projects, the Ozwillo infrastructure is ever-changing to meet user needs and provide the best user experience as possible

  • Enrich the application panel so that the end user finds the freedom to choose and keeps his independence from any software company
  • Developing citizen participation for better management of the public and promote the recognition of contributors
  • Extend the infrastructure to other European countries
  • Develop new tools to ease data linking and their reuse (OCCIware)
  • Improve user experience
  • Industrialize the infrastructure to ease the arrival of new service providers
  • Create the most appropriate governance for the preservation of a "common good" of data produced every day
